Honors 391 A Race, Gender, & Diaspora - The artifact is my final paper for this class where I wrote about The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot and Medical Apartheid by Harriet A. Washington. Although I was not fully satisfied with how the paper turned out, I enjoyed writing it and getting my thoughts out. Initially, I wanted to write the final paper on Medical Apartheid, but I was not able to finish the book. As a back up, I used The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks because I had already read it in high school. In addition, I knew what I wanted to write about if I used the book by Skloot. I wrote about how in high school a student challenged my thinking by stating that it would have never been a big deal if Lacks' identity was to remain anonymous. While I did partially agree with this statement before, I still struggled with it because I thought that her race had much to do with HeLa cells being used without her consent et cetera. After learning more about medical disparities in this class and reading part of Medical Apartheid, I do not think that the treatment Lacks and her family faced was just the product of the time.
CHEM 152 - I was doing really well in this class at the beginning of the quarter because I has just moved on campus. I did enjoy this class because we learned about chemical equilibrium, acids & bases, thermodynamic, and electrochemistry at the end. Although the content was interesting to learn about, I found the class to be fast pace because I lost my flow mid way through the quarter and started to do poorly. The artifact is our "final" for the class that combined two quizzes together. I was not able to complete the quizzes and received a really bad grade. As I am waiting for the final grades to be published, I wanted to share how I did. I learned a lot from this quarter, especially the importance of staying motivated to study and attend class.
MATH 125 - After taking the first exam in this class, my confidence was demolished because I was not expecting a 50% on my first exam. I am retaking this class again during the summer because I want to actually learn and feel confident about my ability to do math. I do appreciate the fact that I struggled because it taught me that retaking a course is okay and I shouldn't be ashamed.
PCEUT 499 - I did not go into the lab as much I had anticipated this quarter, but I did enjoy the time I had in the lab. This day I went to the lab to take some pictures of the work that was being done. In the second picture, Kendan, the graduate student, is showing me kidney cells that are traveling through the chip. I hope to gain more experience in the lab during spring quarter because I really enjoyed it.
